PCLA Event Rules & Policies

Be Friendly!

It's our intention to create a safe and friendly atmosphere for everyone. You can help us simply by being friendly. After all, this event is for meeting other poly, open and sex-positive people and let's face it, that's not a facet of one's life that can be shared with just anyone. So, let's help each other feel comfortable by being cheerful, friendly, mindful of people's comfort levels, keeping positive vibes all around and by saying "Hi!" to each other.

Consent

is Sexy

By attending Poly Cocktails Los Angeles events, you agree to the following:

1. All walks of life are welcome and respected. Whether you are curious about sex-positive alternative lifestyle, a veteran who wrote the book on polyamory, or new to the scene, you are welcome at PCLA. What is not welcome, is inappropriate behavior and violating consent. As the default answer for consent is "no," we ask that all attendees be mindful of how they interact with their peers. Sexually explicit language, physical contact, and certain topics may not be suitable depending on the recipient's perception. Play it safe and be respectful.

2. We expect you to behave appropriately at the venue. Our events are hosted at a public venue, in which the public and venue's perception of our group must remain positive. The venue's policies on acceptable behavior, as well as the rule of law concerning age limits for consuming alcohol must be followed by PCLA members. Additionally, each member is responsible for the cost of their own food and beverage orders.

3. Bring a mask.
At PCLA we follow the current rules set by the local, state and CDC. Mask up if you are asked to do so.

4. Do not assume people's pronouns: ask. If you mess up another person's gender identity or gender expression, apologize and correct yourself, then move on.  Over apologizing is an unnecessary burden on the recipient. We are all human and make mistakes. On that note, we highly recommend reading up on gender expression and identity politics. Respect begins with learning.

5. Substances - Please be mindful of your limits. Being altered is no excuse for not being on your best behavior. If alcohol is being consumed, please drink responsibly. Please smoke in designated areas, as permitted by venue policy. This includes cigarettes, pipes and vaporizers.

6. This is a hate-speech free zone. Micro-aggressions aren't cool either. We celebrate all bodies and types in this space so please no shaming of oneself or others.  We respect differences just as much as we enjoy similarities.

7.  We are a consent necessary space. Consent is Sexy. Only touch others with their express permission and please ask before you take someone's picture. Any form of harassment* is not tolerated.

Furthermore, we do not condone for the following activities:

  • Physical or verbal harassment of other attendees, the public, or venue staff.

  • Sexual misconduct, such as indecent exposure, offensive touching, or other forms of sexual harassment.

  • Engaging in disruptive and unsafe behavior that disturbs other people.

  • Possession or use of any illegal drug, narcotic or banned substance.

  • Distribution of alcoholic beverages, tobacco, or cannabis to any person under the age of 21.

  • Disruptive or inappropriate behavior or any engagement in activity prohibited by law.

  • Possession or use of any item defined as a weapon, illegal or not.

  • Any act which could result in substantial risk of harm to people or property.

8. Don't yuck my yum. Just because its not of interest to you, doesn't mean the idea is undesirable. When we, as a community, agree to talk about sexuality, relationship agreements and sexual preferences, it opens up a safe space to discuss differences without shame. Each person has a unique relationship with sexuality, gender, and romance that is valid, yet none are superior. With that in mind, we ask that PCLA members keep an open mind, and allow others to express themselves in their own way (consensually, of course).

9. You are responsible for anyone that you bring to events. So any policies that apply to existing PCLA members, also applies to new guests. If your guest violates any of our policies, you will be responsible for their actions as much as your own.

*Please note that harassment is any behavior that intentionally annoys, threatens, or alarms another person. This includes any unwanted physical contact, verbal sexual comments toward a non-consenting adult or toward any minor, following someone without a legitimate reason, or threatening to physically harm someone. Remember, if someone approaches you and you tell them to leave you alone, their business with you is done. If they do not leave you alone as you have requested, their actions may be grounds for a complaint of harassment. PCLA will investigate all harassment claims to the best of their ability. PCLA is committed to providing a harassment-free  experience for everyone regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. The organizers wants to maintain a safe space for event attendees, and these policies are in place to protect all of us.

Just Ask Us!
If you need anything, or if something happens and you need some help, or you want to be introduced to someone, please just ask one of the hosts. Don't be shy about it. Just ask. We want to make this a fun and safe experience for you, and make sure you get a chance to meet people.
